From Healing Roots to a National Wellness Movement
Relax The Back® was founded in 1984 in Austin, Texas by an osteopathic physician who wanted to make self-care and spinal wellness products more accessible to his patients. What began as a single store helping people manage back and neck pain quickly evolved into a specialty wellness retailer focused on pain relief, posture, and prevention. Recognizing the growing need for expert-guided comfort solutions, the company launched its franchise model in 1987, empowering passionate entrepreneurs to bring Relax The Back to their own communities. By 1989, the first franchise location opened — marking the start of a wellness brand built on education, expertise, and empathy.
