A: When the valve is open air will flow in and you close the valve to keep the air in. However, due to the way the Self Inflating Backrest ships you will have to blow air into the cushion the first couple of times.

Q: While traveling, one often must sit on rocks or other hard surfaces, I know this says it's great as a back rest, could it be used to 'soften' a hard seat also???

A: The Self Inflating Backrest is intended for your lumbar. However, you may be able to use for a seat cushion, but I am not sure how comfortable it would be.

Q: I cannot figure out how to deflate it. Loosening the nozzle does not seem to work. Please explain how to do it.

A: That is a great question. To deflate the Self-Inflating Backrest you need to open the valve remove all of the air. Once all the air has been removed close the valve. As long as the valve is closed the backrest will stay deflated. Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you.
